Day four: One in Christ

Today's reading — Ephesians 2:11-22

The concept here comparing Jews and Gentiles is something that took me so long to understand. But you don't have to know or understand the entire Bible to get a grasp on this passage.

Think of it like this. Some of us are born into a family; some of us are adopted into a family. Jews are God's chosen people; Gentiles are the others. But He loves us non-Jews, too, and He doesn't want to exclude us from the promise of heaven. Ours is a loving God! So He "destroyed the barrier" (verse 14) and made a new way for us. The old covenant, ALL of it (made with Moses) is no more. He made a way to adopt us into His family when He sent Jesus.

That means nobody is excluded from the promise God offers. We can ALL be part of His family and live in His household. The chief cornerstone of that house is none other than Jesus. (verse 20). Thanks be to God for that old rugged cross!

P.S. Can you think of a better way to explain this verse for someone without a Bible background? I'd love to hear it!
